A wizard’s tower once stood on the outskirts of town but now hangs inside a cloud high above the ground.
Those who have looked into it speak of bizarre, dangerous floors and strange magical tests.
Some say the wizard inside is still alive because the tower continues to move and persist.
Strange beings, impossible spaces, and moral trials are all said to lie somewhere within.
What is Known
Magic Tower is a wizard’s tower on the outskirts of town.
It no longer rests on the ground where it once stood.
The tower now floats within a dense, stationary cloud high above the land, casting a shadow below.
The original ground site remains as a cleared circular plot with a cobblestone path and the faint impression of a foundation.
The tower contains multiple dangerous and unusual floors or chambers that seem designed as trials.
Known features inside the tower include a life-size magical chessboard, a flooded upper passage inhabited by sharks, a locked chamber of glowing vials and goblets, a suit of armor that mirrors intruders, a room filled with squirrels, and a congregation of thirteen masked figures in black robes.
The magical chessboard can pull participants into the pieces themselves, and losing can leave them unconscious when cast back out.
One chamber contains a small hole in the wall that opens into an impossible extradimensional void of stars, nebulae, a floating rock, a distant castle, and enormous tentacles moving through an unreal sea.
Beyond that opening lies a reality-warping space tied to Zaqar, where gravity, distance, and time do not behave normally.
The tower also contains a teleportation sigil that can lead not to safety, but to further tests.
One such trial space was a mirrored chamber that forced isolated moral choices and acts of self-sacrifice.
A small lizard found within the tower was later revealed to be Amanda, a servant of Myrkul who had been cursed after losing her relic.
After Amanda was restored, she ascended deeper into the tower to escort a death-cheating wizard to the underworld.
Water, sharks, and debris later fell from above, suggesting a violent or catastrophic end to whatever remained in the higher levels.
History
The party traveled to the tower site after John Harrison directed them there to learn more about a growing magical quartz cluster.
On arrival, they discovered the tower had risen into the sky and was now enclosed within a cloud.
A nearby farmer confirmed the tower had been there for some time.
The party first sent Jeremy to scout the interior and judged the place too dangerous to assault at that time.
A later expedition entered the tower directly, overcame the magical chessboard, encountered Amanda’s curse, breached the extradimensional chamber linked to Zaqar, and survived a sequence of moral trials tied to the tower’s escape sigil.
