Carceri is a prison plane from which few, if any, escape.
Some call it Tartarus.
The ground itself can kill the unwary.
Those who go there do not return unchanged.
The very land seems hostile to mortal life.
Some whisper of a confessional threshold within the plane that strips denial away before deeper passage is allowed.
What is Known
Carceri is a prison plane, also known as Tartarus.
It is like a string of pearls, each orb the size of a material plane, and crossing from one to another carries travelers deeper through its layers.
As you go lower through each layer, the worlds grow smaller and farther apart.
It is a place of extreme hostility and imprisonment.
The environment is unnatural and deadly.
It is considered nearly impossible to leave once entered.
The party reached Carceri after passing through the Gray Wastes and the River Styx.
The layer of Cathrys is marked by red jungle growth, razor grass, hidden acid pits, and scattered miserable settlements built from sharp or rotting materials.
Within Carceri there can exist divine pockets that do not match the prison around them, such as The Steading, a green giant-held realm nested inside Cathrys.
Abi described the next lower layer, Minethys, as a cold sandblasted wasteland where the wind and yellow sand can strip flesh from bone.
History
The party arrived in Carceri during the events recorded in the session now known as The Descent into Carceri.
Their arrival came after a journey through the Gray Wastes, the River Styx, the blackstone dock, Kronos’s prison, and the confessional archway deeper within the plane.
After surviving the first hazards of Cathrys, the party was guided by Abi through the red jungle toward The Steading.
There they found one possible lead toward Loki through Jesse, who is said to know a trickster god on the next layer.
